Personal Nursing Philosophy and Metaparadigm Personal Nursing Philosophy and Metaparadigm Nursing philosophy plays a crucial role for every healthcare professional. According to the University of St. Augustine (2020), this term denotes “a statement that outlines a nurse’s values, ethics, and beliefs” (para. 3). Even though many nursing students claim that it is challenging for them to create such a philosophy, it is not the case for me. Thus, my philosophy focuses on the idea that a nurse’s responsibility is to take care of all people irrespective of their social, economic, cultural, and political backgrounds. This process means that I should avoid any manifestations of discrimination and prejudice in my practice to ensure that the best possible health outcomes are achieved. That is why I will do my best to develop both personally and professionally to have a sense of personal pride in helping people. The discussion of nursing philosophy has a connection to nursing metaparadigm concepts. Dupree (2018) admits that this metaparadigm offers a set of ideas, including person, environment, health, and nursing components, that explains how a nursing discipline should function. The person component focuses on a patient and their families to ensure that their health issues are addressed through productive and positive relations. Since it is believed that a patient’s environmental factors can influence their health status, the environment component draws attention to how an individual interacts with family, friends, and numerous external factors. The health component implies that emotional, physical, genetic, and social conditions can significantly influence patients’ well-being. Finally, the nursing component stipulates that healthcare professionals can impact people’s health with the help of skills, knowledge, technology, and others. When it comes to my opinion regarding the metaparadigm and its concepts, I would not eliminate any ideas. It is so because their combination seems to address all the perspectives of patients’ health. However, I would introduce the digital environment component because people spend more time online today. Consequently, there is no doubt that these habits influence people’s health and well-being, and the metaparadigm of nursing should address this issue. References Dupree, D.
